Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure in the world, a truly magnificent Khmer architectural masterpiece, the highlight of every tourist's visit, and the most photographed in all of Cambodia.
From afar, looking at this famous tourist attraction in Cambodia will fill you with awe and anticipation. The sheer beauty of the massive site can be overwhelmingly beautiful, especially when veiled in mist in the early morning hours. Mysterious passage ways, beautiful carvings adorning temple walls, tall towers and sweeping courtyards fill the temple landscape and create a sight unlike any other you may have seen. Scrutinized, admired and interpreted by thousands of archaeologists, architects and other designers, the blueprint of Angkor Wat Cambodia remains one of the most unique in the world. Even more beauty is added gracefully to this tourist attraction in Cambodia by a large expanse of gleaming water found in front of the main entrance.

Seasoned photographers recommend that the best time to get a good shot of the facade is after 3pm when the sun is on one side and the front of Angkor Wat is illuminated.

What a beautiful sight you captured! This is the greatest "side effect" of the photohunt: We get to see the world and place we could never dream of visiting! :)
Thanks for visiting my blog!
(PS Dwejra is a bay of the tiny island of Gozo, in the Mediterranean Sea ;) )

Simply stunning. Looks like you followed the advice of those seasoned photographers (or are you one yourself?)! :)
10:09 PM
Wow! Great Picture! That is beautiful building reflecting in the water.

There are some things that it's almost impossible to take a bad photograph of, and I'm guessing this is one of them. Definitely an awe-inspiring sight and wonderfully captured.
I could spend a lot of time photographing a place like this. Might have to load up on some extra memory cards if I ever get a chance to see it!
To answer your question on my shot, the "infinity" effect comes from using two mirrors facing each other with the candle placed between them. By adjusting the angle of the mirror and/or the angle of the camera, you can change the direction of the repeated reflections. And while it's possible to do it with ordinary mirrors, getting this many repetitions pretty much requires that the mirror nearest the camera be a two-way mirror.
In this shot, I positioned the camera slightly to the left of and above the candle. The camera was mounted on a tripod and I took the shot using mirror lockup and a wireless remote (though a cable release would have worked just as well). I'd have to find the original file and get the EXIF data to confirm it, but I believe the exposure was 4 seconds at f/8.0, ISO 100.

What an amazing place - and the reflection on the water makes this the perfect picture for this week's theme.
I want to echo Sabine's comment about the side effect of PhotoHunt - we are so lucky to be viewing the world every week - we have been introduced to so many amazing places.
This week we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for all the Photo Hunters who have enriched my life - THANK YOU!

i've always wanted to visit Angkor Wat, more so after seeing Borobudur- it's like an Asian architectural bug that i've caught...
maybe i ought to take up the offer of a cambodian classmate i met earlier part of this year to visit him...
i think i really, really should... maybe i can visit you too hehe
oh- has miss igorota arrived already? can't wait for the pics of her cambodian sojourn to get published!

Thank you, guys, for visiting. I read all your comments, and my ears are swelling now :) May I daresay that when you are planning a trip to Asia, include a trip to Cambodia and you won't be disappointed!
Sabine, it is so true! Through PH, we are able to see the other side of the world. I so love looking at other photos and mutter to myself how lovely our world still is - all the more the urgency to do something to protect it from destruction :)
YTSL Me, a seasoned photographer? Not quite. Yet. I am just a photography enthusiast and I hope I will be in the near future!
3:45 PM
Oh, you are so right, Mojo. Serious photographers carry with them several memory cards and they attest that it takes several trips to Angkor Wat to cover these majestic beauty. Thanks very much for explaining to me your technique in capturing your PH entry. I love it!!
AlohaMonkey, it wasn't Angkor Wat where the Amazing Racers went to - it was Bayon temple, another ancient beauty. However, the Angkor Wat was shown in the OBB (Opening Billboard) of Amazing Race. Did you get to watch that particular episode? It was fun, wasn't it?
Oi, Ian, come visit!! Angkor Wat is synonymous to Cambodia's national pride and anyone who has visited Cambodia will agree with me that Cambodians are great hosts, and, of course, I certainly won't pass up on a meet-up with you :)
I'm still waiting for Ms Iggy, am very excited to see her!
